Labour’s proposed reforms “promise a sea change in the workplace”

Commenting on Jeremy Corbyn’s speech today (Tuesday) to the delegates gathered at the 151st Trades Union Congress in Brighton,UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis said:

“These reforms promise a sea change in the workplace, one that’s long overdue.

“It’s become far too easy for unscrupulous bosses to treat their staff unfairly, safe in the knowledge their bad behaviour will never be challenged in the courts.

“Despite UNISON’s historic victory against the government’s extortionate tribunal fees, the balance has swung firmly in favour of employers. But today Labour has set out to change all that.

“As soon as we can be sure the threat of no deal has been banished, there must be an election so the UK has a government that puts working people first.”

Notes to editors:
– UNISON is the UK’s largest union, with more than 1.3 million members providing public services – in education, local government, the NHS, police service and energy. They are employed in both the public and private sectors.
