Commenting on the report Transforming Rehabilitation published today (Friday) by the Justice Select Committee, UNISON national officer for probation Ben Priestley said:
“This shows the government’s probation reforms have failed and must be replaced.
“Her Majesty’s Prisons and Probation Service has shown itself to be totally unfit to be in charge. It’s not only failing to support offenders but putting the public at risk too.
“Probation must now be put back together, returned to public ownership and this privatisation nightmare brought to an end.”

– UNISON represents 3,000 people working for the National Probation Service (NPS) and the 21 community rehabilitation companies (CRCs), the private firms awarded contracts in 2014 to supervise non high-risk offenders.
